Christmas Tree Wall

I already have a tree in my living room so I wanted to make the most of it this Christmas.  Voila! my holiday tree wall.  Who needs a 3D tree anyway?

Finally it feels merry up in here!  Suddenly I have the urge to snuggle up with some hot chocolate and watch Elf in my snowman pajamas.

Happy Holidays folks!  =)

I have to give a shout out to my artsy sister Tru.  She is the one that hand painted this tree –check out some of her other creations here.

Happy Blogiversary

One year ago this site went live. That’s right it’s my BLOGIVERSARY!  <hands explode in imaginary confetti toss>

To my mysterious readers out there, thank you for following along.  I have no idea who you are but I do have a hunch that you’re ridiculously good looking. And since you’re here, great taste too. =P  No really, from the bottom of my heart thank you for taking the time to peek into my world.  It mean so much that I can share my photography journey with you.

This last year has been quite a journey indeed.  It wasn’t very long ago that I was just a girl intimidated by the buttons on my shiny new camera.  But I’ve slowly shed my amateur title and  replaced it with a photography groove.  And you know what, that groove is pretty delicious.  I’m finally creating photos I’m proud of. I’m carving out my style.  And most importantly I’m growing as a photographer and person.  It’s been a damn good year.

Mind you I still have a LOT of room for improvement.  I’m always fighting insecurities.  And I’m still pretty darn far from the end goal.  But you know what, I’m better off than I was yesterday.  And forward motion is definitely something to be proud of.

A note to other photographers out there, especially those just starting out.  My one piece of advice is to SHARE YOUR WORLD.  Stop banishing your photos to the dark corners of your hard drives and let the world in on what makes you you. There is no one out there that ever has or ever will have the same amazing unique perspective you will… and it deserves to be seen.  Even if your first step is not photography related, ‘do something today that you’re future self will thank you for.’

I am so glad I started this blog one year ago.  Here’s to another good year. For me. For you.

Hello loves. Things have been a bit slow around this blog, but I promise it won’t stay that way for long.   This August I’ve been keeping busy by getting off my butt and working on my portfolio – expect to see some beautiful faces around here soon!  Plus I’m taking on a 30 day self portrait project which I can’t wait to share with you.  Here’s a quick preview.

But instead of focusing on the emptiness, I just wanted to take some time to be thankful for all things in my life.  “Some people are always grumbling that roses have thorns, I am thankful that thorns have roses.”Alphonse Karr

  • My family’s health.
  • Friends who have provided me with support and laughter through out the years.
  • My mom’s home cooking.
  • My boyfriend, who has loved me unconditionally despite my flaws.
  • My car, Brenda, who has safely gotten me from point A to B for the last decade.
  • The fact that I have a hot shower and warm comforter every night. It’s a simple thing, but I know there are others that are not as lucky.
  • The ability to hear and experience music. Concerts on the grass.
  • All those who have been a part of my life. Every single person.
  • Good memories. Especially those by the sea.
  • Laugh until it hurts moments.
  • My camera. My iphone camera. I can’t imagine a better creative outlet than photography.
  • My optimism. The ability to find beauty or humor in any situation.
  • Farmers market. Fresh vegetables. Garlic, lots of it.
  • Patience. Tolerance.
  • Smiling.
  • Sunblock.
  • Baby sloth videos on Youtube.
  • The fact that I have motivation, goals, and dreams.
  • The hot cup of tea in the morning and the cold glass of wine at the end of the night.
  • The ability to move on from failure.
  • The fact that getting older means shedding insecurities along the way.
  • The fact that everyday I’m taking steps to be the person I was meant to be.
  • My legs and lungs. The ability to dig deep and run that extra mile.
  • The ability to feel pain and sadness.
  • All the life experiences that have made me the person I am now.
  • Finding beauty in unexpected places.
  • The way my dog Jack wags his tail when I get home.
  • My happiness.
  • YOUR happiness.

So that’s my list.  What are you thankful for today?

30 Day Photo Challenge Week 4

Ah July caught up with me and I never posted the last week of my June 30 day challenge.  Well here they are, better late than never!  (Don’t worry I didn’t cheat… these were definitely photographed in June.)

Day 24 – Pajamas

Jumping on the bed action shot.  I got a little cardio workout to get this shot. By the way, everybody needs to own a pair of these pajamas.

Day 25 – Summer

My dog Jack is serious about UV protection this summer.  Kinda looks like a top gun dog eh?  This is pretty much the only shot I could get before he shook the glasses off.

Day 26 – Laugh

Didn’t want to go for the toss your head back cliche laughter picture, I wanted to show a laugh without really showing it.

Day 27 – Teeny Tiny

Little owl says who.

Day 28 – Grass

Just a girl and her dog enjoying a lazy afternoon.

Day 29 – My weekend

On a vegetarian kick. Made some tofu yellow curry from scratch.

Day 30 – Hug

Jack has is own personal paramedic. Hope you’ve enjoyed all the cameos by my dog Jack.   It’s amazing how much cooperation you can get with a beef jerky bribe.

30 Day Photo Challenge Week 3

Woohoo!  I’m done with week 3 of a 30 day photo challenge.   Here they are:

Day 16 – Reminder

Jack is trying to tell me something.  I knew I shouldn’t have given him that one bite, now he’s hooked.  It’s like crack for dogs.  Hell, it’s like crack for humans.

Day 17 – Cloud

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky that day, so I decided to make one!  I don’t think Jack minded one bit.  I wonder what he’s dreaming about.  Oh that’s right, bacon.

Day 18 – Hat

Just a fedora kind of day.

Day 19 – Flower

Hanging out at the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden.  Was followed around by a pair of doves that day. Felt pretty magical.

Day 20 – In Progress

Jenga game in progress here. If you ever get the chance to play Jenga with me, you’ll find I’m damn serious about it. It’s like my body tenses up and collapsing the Jenga blocks is the worst thing possible. I don’t know what it is.

Day 21 – Fresh

Vince enjoying a fresh strawberry.  Strawberry is not enjoying Vince. Hehe.

Day 22 – Bokeh

So many eyeshadow colors to choose from.  So few eyes…

Day 23 – Water

Who says it doesn’t rain during San Jose summers?

So there’s week 3.   If you missed the previous pictures, check out week 1 and week 2 to see how it started.

See ya next time!
