Ives and Twan Stern Grove Engagement

 “Driftin’ on a memory
Ain’t no place I’d rather be
Then with you.”
–Isley Brothers

We each have a place where love lives. Where our thoughts drift to when we need to get back to our happy place. In Ives and Twan’s case, it’s the place where love began.  For their engagement shoot, they revisited their green sanctuary in the middle of the city, Stern Grove park.  It was here, way back when their smartphones were Nokias, that they were head over heels in love high school sweethearts who proudly carved names into public property for each other during after school adventures.

The years have passed and the original name carvings have long faded away, but other than that not much else has changed because these two are just as smitten with each other as ever before.   From my short time hanging out with these two, it was clear that their daily life must be filled with melody, laughter, and chemistry.  I just loved the way they were effortlessly affectionate with one another.   Can you say meant to be?

Speaking of meant to be. Those baseball shots at the end were completely unplanned.  It was purely coincidental that while wearing head to toe Giants gear (they are huge fans that bleed black and orange) they spotted this random ball half tucked into the brush.  What luck!  I don’t know how that ball got there, but I have no doubt that it was meant to be found by them and them only.

Ives and Twan, I truly enjoyed photographing your adventure at the grove.  Best wishes for your 2014 wedding and beyond.  =)

Tea Party with Mina

Wow. Just. Look. At. Those. Eyes.

Meet Mina, a gorgeous gal who hates coffee and loves tea. In her words, coffee makes her sleepy!  A dance student all her life, she hopes one day give back and teach dance to underprivileged kids.  During our shoot, she was the perfect Alice for my wonderland.

Check out the photos of her enjoying some tea and crumpets!

Down by the Creek with Dorie

Meet Dorie.  A psychology student with a passion for all things nature. This was one of my favorite shoots to date because on top of being gorgeous she was not afraid to feel the dirt underneath her bare toes. Her free spirit was perfectly at home in our park setting photoshoot. We had a lot of fun exploring the diversity of the creek while chatting about our dogs, Vietnamese food, and life.

I adored how down to earth and spontaneous she was.  No hesitation whatsoever when I asked her to climb the biggest tree in the park, even if we got some funny looks.  Isn’t it a shame that it’s socially unacceptable for adults to climb trees?  The world would be a better place if we hung out in branches more often–you know just spending the afternoon watching the sun change color through the leaves… but hey I digress.

Check out the awesomeness that is Dorie.  Don’t be surprised if you want to climb a tree afterwards.

Memphis’ Baptism

This maybe his first white suit, but I’m sure it won’t be his last.  The kid’s got style.  Come on just look at that flowing hair!  And his name is Memphis, how indie rocker cool is that?

I had the pleasure of photographing his baptism last Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe church in San Jose.  Though not too enthusiastic about taking pictures, what he lacked in posing skills he made up in high fives and giggles.  Check out the pictures from his first big suit & tie day.

As beautiful as that mop of curly hair is, sadly it’s going to be gone soon.  But not forever – his parents will be donating the clipping to Locks of Love.  Yes some kid out there will be rocking the Memphis.
